Europe’s Top Teams Will Battle for the Podium at Casas Novas
The best riders, horses and teams from 18 countries will gather in A Coruña from July 16th to 20th to fight for the coveted team gold medal.
A Coruña, 7 July 2025
The countdown is on for the Casas Novas Equestrian Center in Arteixo, A Coruña, to open its doors and become the stage for top-level equestrian sport. From July 16th to 20th, it will host the Longines FEI Jumping European Championship, welcoming 92 riders and some of the world’s best horse-and-rider combinations.
The team competition at this thrilling championship will see 18 countries face off, with each national quintet already confirmed — sparking predictions and speculation about which nation will shine brightest and claim the coveted gold medal and top spot on the European podium.
When it comes to the European Jumping Championship, Germany is the team that always attracts attention. The German squad has dominated the championship’s medal table since the first edition in Rotterdam in 1957, where they secured victory. In total, they have amassed 71 medals, 29 of them gold.
Germany arrives in A Coruña with a strong line-up led by Christian Kukuk, ranked fourth in the FEI ranking, and Richard Vogel, ranked tenth, alongside the experienced Marcus Ehning. However, the Bavarian squad recently suffered a major setback, losing their top horse, Messi van’t Ruytershof, who will be unable to compete.
This opens up opportunities for other teams, such as Belgium, which has shown impressive clear-round statistics at CSI5* events this season. The Belgian team will be composed of Gilles Thomas, Abdel Said, Pieter Devos, Nicola Philippaerts, and Thibault Spits.
Claiming a spot on the Casas Novas podium won’t be easy with so many stars in the line-up. Ireland, with Cian O’Connor (World No. 8), Daniel Coyle, Darragh Kenny, and Bertram Allen; and Switzerland — the third most decorated country with 44 medals — with Steve Guerdat and Martin Fuchs (World No. 6 and 7) will do their utmost to bring the gold medal home.
The Netherlands, Great Britain, and France are also among the favourites to make an impact, thanks to strong squads with riders in top form. Maikel Van der Vleuten, a Casas Novas favourite, will lead the Dutch team with Beuville Z Nop, alongside standouts Kim Emmen and Willem Greve. The British team, the second most decorated in the championship’s history, will aim to add to their tally with Ben Maher and Scott Brash leading the charge. France, meanwhile, brings two riders who know the Casas Novas arena inside out: Julien Épaillard and Kevin Staut.
We can’t close the list of favourites without mentioning the team that will attempt to defend its gold medal in A Coruña. Sweden, victorious at the last European Championship in Milan 2023, arrives with a highly competitive quintet led by Petronella Anderson and Wilma Helsström, despite not having their star rider, Henrik von Eckermann.
